The Sega Master System was Sega's entry into the 8 Bit console market. The original Master System was a futuristic design at the time of it's release, but as the market progressed Sega needed to update their console to be more with the current design trends. They shrunk down the hardware into a new sleek designed console, the Sega Master System II. With it's iconic drop down cartridge door cover with large logo, easy to control buttons and switches and sleeker design Sega was trying to keep the Master System relevant in the changing market.Â
These were only available for a short period of time and are exceptionally hard to find from the North American market. They were very popular in Japan and Europe, but the North American console was up against tough established competition from Nintendo and the Master System II was not successful, and thus it is rare.Â
This specific console is in very good overall condition. There is some wear and scratches from normal use. There is also some minor discolouration on the back right of the console, that is very hard to see when the console is in use. The Master System comes with Alex Kidd as a built in title that can be accessed by turning on the console with no cartridge inserted.Â
